Your guide to getting the best insurance quote for your holiday home
When getting a quote, make sure you have the following details to hand so that we can provide you with the best price for the most appropriate cover.
Buildings sum insured for houses
The sum insured should be the full cost of reconstruction, not the purchase price. This applies to the main building as well as outbuildings and swimming pools.
Buildings sum insured for apartments
We recommend that the buildings sum insured includes at least the total cost of redecoration and the total cost of any improvements (bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, air conditioning, etc.....). This is because the level of cover provided by the managing agent’s buildings policy’s varies widely and often falls short of what one would expect from a UK policy. If there is no managing agent’s policy, the sum insured should be set as if the property were a house.
Contents sum insured
The contents sum insured should represent the full replacement cost of all contents including furniture, domestic appliances, clothing, books and CDs, gardening equipment, televisions and other electronic equipment etc..
