The currency exchange rate between sterling and the US dollar has reached a five-month high.
Following somewhat cautious comments from the Bank of England governor Mervyn King, there has been concern among investors that the pound would drop.
Mr King said that the UK economy still contains risks and monetary policy could go up or down.
However, Michael Hewson at CMC Markets explained to Reuters that the pound is still seen as attractive.
"People are more comfortable holding sterling because the economic data out of the UK has been much more positive than the data we've seen out of the US," he said.
"On the last few occasions when King has spoken it has sent the pound lower, but this time it didn't, which tells you the market is happy being long of sterling."
Sterling was trading against the dollar at $1.56 this morning (July 29th) at 08:00 BST.

Recent statistics have revealed that Britons are cutting back on the amount of money they spend overseas.
Currency exchange rates could be responsible for the four per cent decline revealed by the Office for National statistics in Brits' spending abroad.
Expenditure reached £7.4 billion in the three months to February.
Currency exchange rates for the pound have remained low in the run up to the general election due to uncertainty over the UK's economy.
This has left Britons travelling abroad with fewer euros or dollars for their pound than they would have done when exchange rates were better.
However, the number of people who are visiting the UK from abroad is on the rise.
Figures showed that 7.5 million overseas visitors came to British shores during the three months to February - a two per cent increase on the previous three months' levels.
Currency exchange rates mean that people coming to the UK from eurozone countries will get a good deal on their foreign currency exchange.

Britons are spending an increasing amount of money overseas, according to a report by the Payments Council.
Better rates of currency exchange through an independent currency brokerage could reduce the £32 billion which Brits spent overseas last year.
Bank cards and ATMs were reportedly the most used methods of payment, with one-fifth of all money spent abroad being drawn from foreign cash machines.
However, with banks' foreign exchange charges coming in at an average of four per cent per transaction, this way of paying could soon add up.
Money-conscious Britons who are keen to head abroad may also be interested in a recent report from the Post Office which revealed that Prague is the best bargain city break.

The strength of the pound against the euro will have a noticeable affect on international property, according to a new report.
A study from the National Association of Estate Agents International (NAEA) has predicted that the worldwide housing market will be "hugely dependent on the strength of sterling".
The forecast suggested that international purchases between the UK and Europe will remain fairly stable until the balance of supply and demand stabilises and the pound strengthens against the euro.
Linda Travella, spokeswoman for Italy at NAEA International said: "Even though the UK appears to have fallen behind other economies in the race out of recession and economic recovery, sterling has held pretty firm against the single European currency."
She added: "For the first quarter of 2010 the number of international buyers is expected to remain low and therefore offers are more likely to be accepted making it a very good time to purchase an overseas property."
At 14:00GMT today (February 1st) one pound sterling bought 1.145 euros.

The pound rose by 0.2 per cent against the dollar this morning to $1.6311, Reuters reported, following the release of report from Moody's credit ratings agency.
The relatively positive report on the UK's financial position appears to have calmed investor fears on sterling, contributing to the pound's rise.
The report calmed worries over Britain's financial climate, as it indicated that there was no immediate risk of the firm downgrading of Britain's sovereign debt from its present gold-plated AAA rating.
Geraldine Concagh, an economist at AIB Group Treasury, explained to Reuters news agency: "Sterling has been given a bit of a lift from Moody's saying there is no immediate threat to the UK rating, but it has stayed within ranges against the dollar and the euro."
Investors were concerned about the strength of the pound following chancellor Alistair Darling's pre-Budget report earlier this week.
This assurance from Moody's will go some way to stem worries that the chancellor's report did not lay out adequate plans to improve the ever-increasing deficit in the UK's finances.
