Improving currency exchange rates for sterling could be among the reasons why expatriates are enjoying a good quality of life.

Recent research from NatWest has revealed that 71 per cent of retired expats are comfortable that they have made the right decision in moving abroad after working life.

The bank's International Personal Banking Quality of Life Report found that financial security was also high among retired expatriates, with the majority owning their own property.

Sterling's growing strength on the currency exchange markets could be improving the quality of life for pensioners who are drawing some of their retirement income from the UK.

Dave Isley, head of the group's international personal banking sector, commented: "Reflecting on the financial stability of retired expats, it is reassuring to see that over a third (37 per cent) expect their financial position has improved whilst living abroad.

"Whilst there are many factors contributing to a great life aboard, feeling financially stable is such a valuable and important factor for retirees."
