There could be an increase in the number of people making international money transfers to South Africa to purchase property in the country following the successful 2010 World Cup.
Prior to the tournament, there were concerns about whether South Africa was up to the job of hosting such a major sporting event, with critics pointing to inadequacies in its infrastructure.
But the competition proved successful, attracting more than three million fans to become the third best-attended World Cup ever.
According to the Cape Times, South African president Jacob Zuma told delegates at the 1Goal education summit in Pretoria that his country has "proven a point to those who felt Africa could not do it".
Now, Fifa president Sepp Blatter has voiced his support for a South African bid to host the Olympic Games in 2020.
"I can tell you now if a country can host a Fifa World Cup successfully, that country can definitely organise the Olympics," he remarked.
Such success could provide a boost to South Africa's property market as overseas buyers look to take advantage of the increases in tourism and economic activity that could ensue.
