Expatriates may want to make use of international money transfers if they find themselves living in a particularly expensive part of the world.
A recent survey from Employment Conditions Abroad revealed that Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world for daily goods and services.
The Japanese city just beat Oslo to the first place, after the Norwegian city was relegated to second place following its climb from eighth place in 2009.
Earlier this month uSwitch.com reported that a growing number of Britons are considering moving abroad.
The survey found that the current economic climate had led 30 per cent of Brits to consider now a good time to emigrate.
Although an independent foreign exchange broker could keep costs down for those looking at luxury destinations, there are other cheaper areas of the world which have been recommended to expatriates.
Shelter Offshore suggested that people looking for a cheap place to retire to should consider looking at Cuba.
