Property sales in Spain are on the rise which could signal an increase in international money transfers to the Mediterranean country.
The latest figures from the College of Registrars revealed a 7.04 per cent increase in the number of property sales in Spain during the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period last year.
However, certain estate agents recorded significantly higher levels of interest.
Chris Mercer, director of Costa Calida-based estate agents Mercers, commented: "We can reveal a quite spectacular increase of 157 per cent for quarter one [in] 2010 over quarter one 2009.
"And based on the number of enquiries we're receiving, [we] feel optimistic for the rest of the year. It seems that would-be Spanish property buyers are fed up of waiting in the wings and now want to make the most of a soft market."
The improving currency exchange rate between sterling and the euro could also encourage Brits to make an international money transfer in order to buy property in Spain.
