A growing number of expatriates are choosing to do their grocery shopping online to avoid poor currency exchange rates between sterling and the euro.

The Telegraph has reported that Sterling Shopping, a delivery service set up in 2009, has experienced an increase in the number of people using its services.

Sterling Shopping delivers items from UK stores to expatriates and other people living in the south of France.

The company has seen its British customer base in France grow to around 3,000.

Jack Hannigan, who works on the UK side of the company, told the paper: "The pound is very weak against the euro at the moment, so it's often cheaper for expats to pay for British groceries in sterling and have us deliver them.

"We drive between three to five vans over every week, filled with things like croissants and wine which you'd assume expats would buy in France."
