International money transfers to Portugal could become more popular among property hunters who are looking for a countryside home.

According to Jose Luis Borges das Neves from the Beiraneves property agency, a growing number of foreign buyers are looking at areas away from the traditional tourist areas.

"Most people choose to buy existing houses with character," he told Overseas Property Professional. "I saw three people interested in buying countryside property last week and am seeing another two this week."

An independent foreign exchange broker could help people looking for a rural property to benefit from the current rate of foreign exchange.

Mr Borges das Neves described the areas where increase is growing: "Quiet countryside area that is often overlooked by tourists … destinations where they can live better in a temperate climate, and live cheaper than the Algarve and Silver coasts."
