British expatriates living in New York City are gearing up to celebrate the first-ever BritFest, it has been reported.

Geared towards providing expats with socialising and networking opportunities, the meet-up group Big Apple Brits was set up just last year by Louise Gale.

Now, inspired by a similar event held each year in Los Angeles, founder Louise Gale has confirmed the dates for the inaugural BritFest, with the first full week in June set to see a number of events hosted across the city.

Speaking to the Telegraph, she explained that, as well as being a perfect opportunity to socialise, the week-long festival could also be useful for helping ex-pats with issues such as international money transfers or employment openings.

"Being an expat can be quite lonely, and the festival will with any luck help us support each other - as well as perhaps provide an opportunity to support British owned businesses," she said.

News of the festival comes soon after the Telegraph journalist Rosie Murray-West advised that Britons with second homes in the eurozone are now likely to see the money they send overseas through international money transfers stretch further due to the weakness of the pound.
