International money transfers may become cheaper if the euro's struggles continue.

Earlier this week, the euro tumbled to a four-year low against the dollar as investors became jittery about the viability of the single currency.

Now, the French economy minister has said that the euro is not at risk of failing as has been suggested by Angela Merkel.

Christine Lagard told RTL Radio that she disagreed with the German chancellor's view that the euro is in danger.

"The euro is a solid and credible currency," she insisted. "I absolutely do not think that the euro is in danger."

Ms Lagard's comments come in response to Ms Merkel's warning that the euro is facing problems and must be supported by countries in Europe.

Under fire from taxpayers for approving a loan to bail out debt-ridden Greece, the German chancellor said earlier this week: "If the euro fails, then Europe fails … if we do not avert this danger, then the consequences for Europe are incalculable and then the consequences beyond Europe are incalculable."
