International money transfers to Italy to grow?

International money transfers to Italy could become more popular as the country appears to increasing in popularity.

Housing website Rightmove recently reported that significantly more searches were being carried out for property in the Mediterranean country.

Sicily, Sardinia and Lazio were among the most popular locations, with the first seeing an increase of over 115 per cent in the number of searches carried out between April 2009 and the same month this year.

Robin Wilson, head of overseas at Rightmove, commented: "Sardinia and Sicily are absolutely the stars of the Mediterranean property right now and deservedly so."

He added: "They both possess fabulous unspoilt coast and interiors and are only a short hop from all that mainland Italy has to offer".

Despite Italy's rising star, the favourite haunts of expatriates, France and Spain, remained at the top of the chart of the 20 most searched for locations.
