Those looking for a European bolthole need not confine themselves to the more traditional destinations, it has been suggested.
Writing for the Times, sector commentator Zoe Dare Hall explains that if people widen their search a little, there are a multitude of places which are just as easy to get to and where prices will be lower - perhaps due to a more favourable currency exchange rate - than in more established cities.
Among the places identified by Ms Dare Hall as up-and-coming destinations is Lisbon, which features "charming" new buildings and benefits from regeneration schemes in the older parts.
Meanwhile, Marrakesh in the north African country of Morocco is also identified as a bohemian bolthole turned popular second home city, proving popular with both culture vultures and City players.
"Choose your property well and it will pay its way as a holiday home when youre not there," Ms Dare Hall concludes.
