People who are considering transferring their money and moving abroad may be tempted by the latest results from the Quality of Life survey.
International Living magazine ranked France as the number one country in its listings which judged the quality of life in 194 countries.
Factors considered included the cost of living, the environment and the economy.
France scored an average 55 on the cost of living but made up for it with high marks in the health and infrastructure categories.
It is the fifth year running that the magazine has awarded France with the top spot.
While the country is famed for its "tiresome bureaucracy" and high taxes, the magazine believes these downfalls are outweighed by "an unsurpassable quality of life, including the world's best healthcare".
Britain was dragged down to 25th place primarily by its high cost of living.
This is a fall of six places from last year where it settled at 19.
