Favourable exchange rates will help travellers make decisions about which countries to visit on holiday, it has been claimed.

Bob Atkinson of price comparison website travelsupermarket.com said that accommodation and other costs are related to exchange rates.

He explained that the recession is leading more Britons to review their spending and look for value for money.

"Non-euro destinations currently offer this in spades, with destinations such as Turkey, North Africa, Egypt, Thailand and South Africa clearly winning from the weakness of the pound against the euro," Mr Atkinson noted.

"European ski resorts have been impacted immensely by poor exchange rates, making the ski holiday in particular out of reach for many and forcing customers to swap to destinations such as Bulgaria, the USA or Canada where rates are more favourable," he added.

The comments come after a report from travel website TravelZoo.com revealed that more than four in ten Britons intend to take more holidays in 2010 than they did last year.
