Expats who have not ventured too far from the UK are more likely to receive visits from loved ones, a new survey shows.

Alliance & Leicester International (ALIL) discovered that while an annual average of ten friends and family members travel to stay with people who have moved to France, two to three do the same for those in New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.

Despite it being simple to arrange a money transfer wherever one moves to, it may be that longer travel times and distances put people off visiting relocated loved ones.

ALIL joint managing director Simon Ripton said: "For those considering emigrating abroad, it appears that if you're hoping to escape the in-laws, the answer is to move as far away as possible!"

In related news, the financial provider recently discovered that the most-missed UK Christmas tradition for expats who have spent over two decades abroad is carol singers.ADNFCR-1995-ID-18910884-ADNFCR
