Canada offers the best lifestyle for UK expats, according to a new survey from HSBC Bank International.
The Expat Experience report found that there is a "trade-off" between the income levels and quality of life on offer from various destinations.
For example, the best places to make money - which can then be sent elsewhere via international money transfers - could often be those in which it is less pleasant to live.
Canada, Australia and Thailand came first, second and third on the overall survey.
Thailand was found to be the "friendliest" place to live, while Belgium was voted as "least friendly".
Australia topped the table as the best place in which expat financial affairs, including money transfers, could be organised.
Alan Smith, head of international wealth management at HSBC Bank International, commented: "What is clear is that the locations where salaries may not be as high, such as Canada and Australia, are where expats are really enjoying not only an increased quality of life but are also finding it easy to fit in to their new communities."
