Customers are enthusiastic about the prospect of making international money transfers through their phones, a new poll has suggested.

The survey, taken by YouGov on behalf of RBS/NatWest, showed that around one in four customers would be interested in making mobile money transfers between bank accounts.

A similar number said that they would like to receive fraud alerts via their phones.

NatWest commissioned the survey ahead of its launch of a special iPhone app, through which customers can perform various online banking tasks such as checking their accounts.

Tim France-Massey, head of NatWest's mobile team, commented: "In the current climate, NatWest is more committed than ever to delivering innovative solutions to help customers connect with their finances.

"Mobile phones are becoming an increasingly popular means of money management, and the iPhone provides us with a really cutting edge technology platform to support our customers' needs."

Meanwhile, Steve Reynolds, chairman of industry group the Mobile Data Association (MDA), said that mobile banking could deliver customer benefits through providing increased "convenience".
