France is a favourite among British property investors who wish to exchange money to buy homes in the country, according to an industry expert.

Financial advisor Shelter Offshore recently claimed that the region remains popular with potential expats due to its warm climate and high standard of living.

Rhiannon Davies, director of the resource, explained that the large variation in properties can appeal to a wide range of investors, from those searching for city apartments to people keen on buying traditional countryside dwellings.

She said: "Britons are still seeking the rural idyll that provides them with the best balance between escapism and finding great weather, a fantastic lifestyle and an affordable cost of living."

Efficient transport links between France and the UK are a major draw for investors who commute from the continent to England on a weekly basis, added Ms Davies.

In related news, a study by comparison site uSwitch.com recently named France as the country offering the best quality of life.
