Favourable currency rates in long-haul destinations are likely to attract more UK visitors, according to industry experts.

Travel company Expedia.co.uk recently made the claim following the release of figures by the Post Office.

A survey by the Royal Mail Group showed that Thailand is one of the cheapest locations for Brits, while Australia was the most expensive country included in the poll.

Jonathan Cudworth, director of product management at the travel portal, stated his belief that visitors to the Far East benefit from the low cost of living and favourable exchange rates.

He said: "Long-haul destinations, such as the Far East, represent excellent value for money.

"Searches to Egypt, Turkey and Dubai have all increased over the past few months and will continue to do so into early next year," he added.

According to Thomas Cook research, nearly a quarter of Brits pay inflated prices for goods overseas as they make miscalculations with currency rates.
