Cape Verde may soon prove more attractive to UK emigrants due to a development scheme.

The republic is set to spend €300 million (£264 million) on constructing travel hubs on several of its islands, which could boost investment in the area due to stronger transport links with other countries.

This may prove interesting to Brits wishing to transfer money to fund assets located in lucrative destinations, news agency Lusa reports.

Port management firm Enapor will be responsible for overseeing the constructing of the travel links, which are to include renovation of docks on several of the republic's islands.

A city official from Praia told the agency: "As of 2012, we will have port infrastructures to compete with other types of transport.

"On five or six islands there will be port terminals with conditions of quality and comfort that are similar or better than those of the airports."

In addition, a new airport is planned on Santo Antao in a bid to further boost transport links between the republic and mainland countries.

Meanwhile, Air Portugal recently increased the number of flights operating from the continent to Cape Verde.
