South America is an ideal destination for retirees wishing to move abroad, according to a leading magazine.
International Living recently named Ecuador as the best country for potential expats who are considering making international payments to overseas mortgages.
Laura Sheridan, editor of the publication, explained the poll considered a range of criteria that can have a significant impact on the lives of retirees.
Ecuador scored highly in regard to quality of healthcare, taxes and house prices.
Ms Sheridan said: "It's a place of old-world beauty where you can enjoy the wallet-pleasing prices that deliver a private retreat for as little as $300 (£184) a month.
"Ecuador has been one of our favourite locations for overseas retirement. It won the top honour in 1999 and has been among our preferred locales ever since."
Meanwhile, tourism specialist Atout France recently highlighted the continent as a popular location for Brits due to its affordable transport links.
