UK emigrants living in San Marino may soon need to get their paperwork in order due to a nationwide census.
The republic is set to conduct a survey of its 31,000 residents in order to reduce the number of tax evaders.
Brits who have made money transfers to finance their new starts in the region may come under the scrutiny of the census.
Foreign minister for the state Antonella Mularoni explained that some investors claim to live in San Marino in order to benefit from its low taxes and banking practices.
The republic has been under investigation by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, due to its status as a tax haven.
In order to avoid facing further inspection by the group, San Marino must carry out 12 procedures, with one being a nationwide census.
"It's been a very bad time for San Marino, but we are responsible for many of the problems we have encountered," Ms Mularoni told the Telegraph.
In other news, Liechtenstein recently agreed to share details of banking transactions with Luxembourg to reduce tax fraud.
