Expats who have made money transfers to UK state pensions are to hear today whether their attempts to have payments increased in line with inflation have been successful.

A group of UK emigrants are attending the European Court of Human Rights to find out the results of a hearing.

The expats are demanding that their state pension payments increase to correspond with the rise in inflation, instead of being frozen, which is the case for Britons currently living in Canada, South Africa and Hong Kong.

Annette Carson, former Briton, currently resides in South Africa and is calling for change to the present system.

The expat explained that she continued to make money transfers to her state pension after emigrating but her payments from the scheme have now been frozen at £67.50.

Finance expert Elizabeth Colman recently told the Sunday Times that Brits making money transfers to offshore banks may benefit from tax breaks, provided they have broken ties with their home country.
