Brazil is emerging as an increasingly popular destination for Britons, new figures indicate.

Research by the Brazilian Tourist Board recently revealed that the number of visitors to the area has risen by 2.3 per cent compared with last year.

Some 181,000 Britons flew to Brazil in 2008, which is up on the previous year's 177,000.

Travel operator Journey Latin America, explained that increased flights to the region are helping to boost the number of visitors, with many likely to use foreign exchange services to take advantage of favourable currency rates.

Laura Rendell-Dunn, spokeswoman from the firm, said: "It's great news that tourism to Brazil is increasing; TAP Portugal has increased their schedule.

"The Portuguese airline is flying into various locations in the north-east of Brazil and the capital Brasilia."

Meanwhile, tourism specialist Atout France recently stated that transport links to France make it an affordable location for UK visitors.
