Brits living overseas may soon receive quicker medical treatment thanks to a new project.

The European Commission is backing a new scheme that sees health insurers teaming up to provide greater communication among medical care companies.

Called TEN4Health, the initiative benefits from Netc@rds technology, which uses the internet to send messages regarding patient care.

This can ensure that expats who may be visiting destinations other than their adopted countries receive speedy medical attention as their details can be shared across borders.

In addition, the project may have an impact on Brits who make money transfers to health insurance policies as the improved system is likely to result in them being reimbursed more quickly following medical attention.

Hans-Willi Schemken, from insurer AOK, said: "We are on a successful route to providing real cross-border healthcare services to our customers."

In related news, insurance firm National Friendly recently launched a health insurance policy that is aimed at covering Brits who are returning from overseas and are unable to transfer their current policies.
