Britons who spend time in their homes located outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) may have greater access to free health care in the UK thanks to new proposals.
The Department of Health and the Home Office recently published plans that will see more expats becoming eligible for NHS treatment, which may interest those who have transferred money to overseas mortgages.
Currently many UK emigrants are not able to receive free medical procedures if they spend more than three months a year living in destinations beyond the EEA.
However, if implemented the regulations will extend this period to six months, meaning an increased number of Britons returning to the UK can access the NHS.
"The idea is to make things equal and fair for everyone while tidying up the anomalies," a government spokesperson told the Telegraph.
Bupa recently launched a new medical insurance product that it believes may appeal to expats intending to make money transfers to health care schemes.
