Expats may see a greater return on their investments if they make international payments to commercial properties, according to industry experts.

Figures from Property consultant Knight Frank show that in the second quarter of this year, investments in some overseas commercial premises were picking up.

Joe Simpson, spokesperson for the firm, explained that falling rental values and an increase in the number of overseas properties available may mean UK emigrants have more choice when choosing where to place their money transfers.

"Across Europe, yields are stabilising in the very prime markets. There will be interest for the right product in most European markets," he said.

"The currency issue is just one of a number of factors to consider, but is obviously a significant one to sterling investors."

A LaSalle Investment Management report recently revealed that retail rather than office premises are more desirable investments, as they are more likely to withstand the effects of the recession.
