UK emigrants using credit cards to make international money transfers may be at a greater risk of theft due to their clothing, according to industry experts.

Consumer watchdog Which? recently warned that Brits who wear summery clothes could become the target of thieves.

Dan Moore, senior researcher from the magazine, stated his belief that potential criminals can more easily detect wallets on people who are wearing items such as shorts and t-shirts.

He said: "If you have got your card with you, then you are a target.

"If you are in the UK, the chances are you have a chunky jacket on [and] jeans and it is a lot harder to see if someone's got a wallet."

Meanwhile, life assistance firm CPP recently revealed a 17 per cent increase in cards being lost and stolen abroad in the last 12 months.

The company stated that Brits making money transfers in France and Spain were at most risk of being the victims of card crime.
