Over a million expats may make international payments to a new health insurance policy, according to the provider.

Bupa recently announced it has overhauled its medical insurance coverage targeted at UK emigrants, which it believes will appeal to 1.5 million Britons living overseas.

Previously the company offered three levels of cover to policyholders wherever they lived in the world.

However, its World Health Options (WHO) product sees expats being able to "mix and match" different modules available via the policy, meaning they are able to transfer money to health insurance they have tailored to their needs.

For instance, UK emigrants living in deprived countries can choose to add on evacuation coverage, which will see them being moved to destinations offering modern medical procedures should the need arise.

David Grint, commercial director of Bupa International, told the Telegraph: "Bupa WHO is a mix and match agenda: you can go a la carte or you can go pre-packed."

Meanwhile, IMG Europe recently launched a three-tier health insurance product aimed at UK emigrants living in Mediterranean countries.
