Britons who have relocated to some cities located in the United Arab Emirates earn significantly more than they spend, according to research.

A study by the department of economic development of Abu Dhabi recently revealed that due to favourable foreign exchange rates and high wages, expats are living well within their means.

The research showed that the average emigrant family brings in a monthly income of approximately 24,400AED (£4,091), the Khaleej Times reports.

However, further figures showed that expats used foreign exchange services to spend just 13,783AED (£2,315) each month to fund their lifestyles.

Author of the report Khalid Al Dasouky explained that on average those relocating to the area earn 77 per cent more money than they spend.

Some 44 per cent of emigrants' income is used to pay rental fees, while 16 per cent is taken up with travel costs.

In a recent study by financial advisor Mercer, Johannesburg was highlighted as the most affordable city for expats.
