New Zealand may see an influx of UK citizens transferring money to the country in order to make it their new home, new research indicates.

The Economist Intelligence Unit and the Institute for Economics and Peace recently teamed up to discover some of the most peaceful nations in the world.

Countries were graded on a range of criteria including terrorism risk, murder rates and war involvement.

The results placed New Zealand at the top, with Denmark and Norway in second and third place respectively, which indicates that expats may consider these areas for their international money transfers regarding mortgages and pensions.

Kevin Clements, professor from Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand, said: "The index is a pretty good reflection of countries people want to live in, because on bicultural issues and a variety of factors we are scoring well."

Recent figures from Immigration New Zealand revealed that in the last year the country has seen the number of Brits permanently living in the country rocket by 20 per cent.
