Expats starting a new life abroad may find they ease into their new communities better by making sure they transfer money to within their local areas.
Speaking to the Telegraph, expat Vernon Hall recently revealed his family's transition abroad was helped by his commitment to make international money transfers to businesses near his home.
Mr Hall relocated to a Spanish village amid the 1994 recession and explained that despite the economic slowdown he renovated his property without suffering financially.
The expat made a concerted effort to use local services for many aspects of the move and remodelling of his home and this helped his family integrate into the community.
Mr Hall said: "Everyone was pleased to see us; customers were a scarce commodity at that time.
"Everyone gave us a smile and a greeting and 15 years later we still see many of them."
In other news, Shelter Offshore recently advised expats to make sure they have adequate health insurance if they visit the UK as they may no longer qualify for free treatment via the NHS.
