European countries are still proving to be favourite destinations for Brits using foreign exchange services, according to industry experts.

Midlands Co-op Travel recently revealed that UK families are continuing to spend their money in the eurozone despite the weak pound.

A spokeswoman for the company said that although exchange rates were drawing Brits to long-haul destinations, traditional expat locations on the continent are still attracting UK citizens.

"We have seen an increase in interest in non-euro destinations like Bulgaria, Morocco, Egypt and Turkey, which offer better exchange rates," she said.

"However, traditional tried and tested European destinations are still very popular - particularly with families."

Figures from flight portal Skyscanner recently showed that Portugal was the third most visited country in the world by Brits making foreign exchange transactions, while Thailand saw the largest increase in visitor numbers.
