Britons living abroad may have to foot costly medical bills if they do not make money transfers to health insurance policies, finance experts warn.
Shelter Offshore recently joined the government in warning expats to protect their health in both the UK and their new country.
The financial advisor explained that some Brits who visit the UK after a period of living overseas mistakenly believe they will have access to the NHS.
Holidaymakers who take short trips abroad are covered for many medical eventualities by the European Health Insurance Card, but this does not apply to those residing overseas.
"You need to seriously think about getting health insurance in place," said the company.
"The NHS may not be accessible to you if you return to the UK and need anything other than emergency treatment."
Brits should also make sure they transfer money to life insurance policies to protect their investments abroad, according to the financial advisor.
