Foreign currency exchange rates are very important to people when it comes to travelling abroad, it has been suggested.

Elliot Frisby, press and PR manager for tourism board VisitBritain, explains current exchange rates are likely to result in an increasing number of people staying at home, rather than taking breaks overseas.

"Brits are just looking to save money and go on a cheap holiday, but exchange rates mean that they are more likely to stay at home instead," he adds.

Mr Frisby continues by suggesting short breaks abroad are the holiday type which is most likely to be sacrificed due to the ongoing effects of the global economic slowdown.

However, he states fewer people will feel the need to stop taking domestic breaks and holidays.

Meanwhile, a poll carried out in recent days by news agency Adfero suggested 80 per cent of people did not believe the ongoing effects of the credit crunch would impact on their holiday plans for 2009.ADNFCR-1995-ID-18934848-ADNFCR
