Most people's preconceptions about Nicaragua "are wrong", it has been suggested.
An article on online resource Shelter Offshore explains the country is no longer dangerous or unstable and is, in fact, a passionate and vibrant nation.
It notes the Central American region is inhabited by some of the most decent and down to earth people on the planet, as well as being affordable.
The piece cites a book by authors Randall Wood and Joshua Berman entitled Living Abroad in Nicaragua.
It states that despite all the good things people have to say about the country, those considering becoming expats - and perhaps thinking of purchasing a home in a new country via international money transfer - should be careful and get an accurate picture of what a country is like before making a commitment to a relocation.
The currency of Nicaragua is the cordoba, however, the US dollar is widely used.
