Brits who do not inform their bank of a trip abroad may run the risk of not being able to pay for anything while away, it has been suggested.
Before leaving the UK, people make sure they are organised when it comes to issues such as passports and money matters should be no different, explained cards expert at moneysupermarket Peter Harrison.
He added it was surprising that 79 per cent of travellers still use a card which charges transaction fees when in another country.
Mr Harrison said 77 per cent of people who use one of these are not happy with the fees but "it remains to be seen though if their annoyance will turn to action."
Credit cards from the Post Office, Thomas Cook and Nationwide do not levy a fee for purchases abroad, he concluded.
Brits planning on buying larger items when overseas such as a holiday home - may wish to use an international money transfer system to help them pay for it in cash and without the hassle of credit card fees.
