Eastern European countries such as Latvia and Slovakia could offer good opportunities for Britons looking to make an international money transfer and emigrate from the UK, it has been suggested.

The countries could provide Britons with the chance to make a good investment in a property via an international payment and offer a lower cost of living than seen in the UK.

Unconventional European countries like Slovakia and Latvia are becoming popular destinations because they are good value for money, according to online travel company Expedia.

Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing at the organisation, said: "Recent Expedia data found that interest in Dubrovnik has surged 223 per cent from last year to this [year], while Krakow also saw an increase of 21 per cent."

While many people head to the destinations for short holidays, the region also offers good opportunity for property investment and a potential new location for emigrating Brits.

Trips to Latvia increased from 4,000 in 2003 to around 50,000 in 2007, representing an increase of 1,164 per cent, figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed.
