People considering emigrating from the UK are still looking at destinations in the Far East to make an international money transfer.

The region will be the focus of a new television programme airing this week, fronted by Alan Whicker, which will explore the changes to the area that have occurred since he first visited it 50 years ago.

Since his first reports on the Far East, many Britons have been inspired to make an international money transfer to the region and have taken up residence on a variety of islands in the area, including Hong Kong and Bali.

When the presenter's first visit to Hong Kong was shown half a century ago, few Britons were able to make an international money transfer and emigrate to the area, but today that has changed significantly and thousands of Britons have been able to set up home in the Far East.

Alan Whicker began his career after the Second World War as a journalist, reporting on the Korean War. He joined the BBC in 1957 and is best known for his series Whicker's World, in which he travelled the globe bringing far-flung corners of the world to British television screens.
