Britons preparing to emigrate have been warned to make sure they are ready for the government's implementation of the new e-Borders system.

The government has launched the new scheme, which sees data collected and analysed from carriers (including airlines, ferries and rail companies) about everyone who intends to travel to or from the UK before they travel.

Insurance firm InsureandGo has warned the initiative could cause some travel disruption as it comes into effect, meaning those who have made an international payment could find themselves facing delays to their journey if they are emigrating in the coming weeks.

Perry Wilson, founder of InsureandGo, said people who have their flight destination changed at the last minute will have to have all their flight details transferred from one airport to another.

The e-Borders system will contain information on everyone going into and out of Britain, including details of where they are travelling, their seat numbers, when bookings were made, any changes made since the initial reservation, the time the passenger checked in and what class they were travelling in.

Although originally planned to be launched last October, the scheme's implementation was delayed until Easter this year.
