Turkey is becoming a popular destination for people making a currency exchange and emigrating, it has been claimed.

According to overseas listings site PropertyIndex.com, searches for property in Turkey increased by 286 per cent in the last year, as more people consider emigrating from the UK.

Adam Samuel, director at online overseas property resource Nubricks, explained that the country is proving popular with people planning a currency exchange and is even more popular than neighbours such as Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria.

"Probably the key to why Turkey is still of interest to people is because it hasn't joined the EU and the prices are extremely cheap compared to most other [places] on the market," he explained.

He added that the potential entrance into the EU by Turkey could be boosting investment in the country now, as people look to emigrate from the UK while prices remain cheap.

Meanwhile, people planning a currency exchange to emigrate to Australia have been warned to check whether their skills are still needed in the country.

A recent change in the rules by the Australian government means the country is no longer calling for construction workers, after the global economic downturn hit the country's building sector.
