Before making an international money transfer and purchasing a property in Spain, one expert has recommended renting for 12 months.

Founder of Almerimarlife.com Chris Marshall explained how it is wise to spend time seeing what it would be like to live in the country.

He suggested renting a home for at least a year so it is possible to see what the nation is like in all the different seasons.

"With tourist areas or holiday resorts, what may seem quite pleasant with lots of people and social life during the summer, come the winter - it could be anything but that," Mr Marshall remarked.

Other things that may surprise those considering relocating abroad is the fluctuations in temperatures, with some areas still having cold periods despite being very hot in the peak season.

Another factor potential expats need to take into account is transport links with the UK, as Mr Marshall noted some airports do not offer flights between Spain and Britain all year round.

"Accessibility is important, because although you may have decided you're never going to go and live in England ever again - you may still want friends and family to come over and see you," he stated.

Mr Marshall also warned people they may find the lifestyle change hard to adjust to as he claimed expat communities are "very intense environments to live in".

It was suggested individuals may find themselves spending a lot of time with others they would not usually choose to see, as they attempt to make new friends.

Attempting to integrate into Spanish life may help prevent individuals feel overwhelmed within expat communities and is also said to be a good way to ensure locals welcome new neighbours.
