It has been claimed that skiing holidays are less likely to suffer from the recession than other types of holiday, despite their cost.

People considering making an international payment on a new holiday home may consider buying one near the ski slopes because they should be able to continue to attract visitors during the global economic downturn.

The Ski Club of Great Britain has suggested that skiing holidays will not suffer the brunt of the recession because many people often take two holidays a year - a summer one and a skiing trip.

However, as the recession hits, a growing number of people are planning to cut back on holidays abroad, but Betony Garner, a spokeswoman for the organisation, suggested that many people will choose to turn their skiing holiday into their summer holiday as well.

"Skiing is an outdoor sport so it is easy for the whole family to do and gets them out doing things - sometimes people may choose skiing over their summer holiday," she explained.

People planning to make an international payment on an overseas property this year that can provide an income as a holiday home would benefit from buying near a skiing location, if Ms Garner's predictions are true.

The Ski Club of Great Britain recently revealed that skiing conditions in the Alps and Pyrenees are as good as they have been for 25 years.
