New research has suggested that as many as four in five Britons would be keen to transfer money abroad and emigrate from the UK if no obstacles existed.
The figures from perfectholidayhome.co.uk reveal that 79 per cent of Britons would emigrate if given the opportunity, with the majority choosing Florida as the ideal place to make their new home.
Most of those wanting to emigrate would transfer money abroad and make the move in order to escape the poor British weather and prospects for a better lifestyle.
While most people wanted to move to Florida (42 per cent), a considerable number would emigrate to Australia or New Zealand (20 per cent) the study found.
However, recent changes to the Australian immigration rules could severely restrict the number of Britons able to emigrate to the country in future.
A number of trades, including bricklayers, plumbers, welders, carpenters and metal fitters have been removed from Australia's critical skills list in the wake of the global economic downturn, meaning fewer skilled people are now being actively sought by the Australian authorities.
