People looking to transfer money abroad and invest in a second home have been advised that there are some "fantastic opportunities" on the market at the moment.

Marc Da-Silva, freelance property reporter and founder of PropertyJournalist.com, claimed there are a number of bargains to be found despite the "mess and chaos" in the sector.

He remarked that Portugal, Spain and Ireland offer "some wonderful investment opportunities" for those keen to purchase a buy-to-let home.

"While people may not be in the position to be able to buy property, they certainly still need somewhere to rent, which then creates rental opportunities," Mr Da-Silva commented.

Individuals were advised not to "ignore Europe" when considering where to make an investment, as the market is offering some readily achievable "high yield rentals", it was noted.

Mr Da-Silva's remarks follow a recent report from Standard Life that revealed which nations are the most popular with those looking to retire abroad.

Spain topped the poll, with Australia taking second and the US third, while France and Ireland completed the top five.

However, Britain is not to be overlooked as a great destination for investment opportunities, as one expert claimed the capital is a "safe haven".

Head of investment management at London Central Portfolio Hugh Best described how the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, as well as the City of Westminster are deemed by many property moguls as good places to spend.

It was suggested that the capital is proving popular with foreign investors from the Middle East and Singapore, who are keen to move their money from areas of political and economic instability.

As a result, Mr Best claimed many are purchasing houses in London where they will see a good return on their investment.
