It has been claimed that the falling British pound could force many Britons to look away from Europe for their summer holiday this year.

While the pound has dropped significantly against the euro and US dollar, there remain plenty of locations around the world where Brits can get a bargain and plenty of people could be tempted to make an international payment on a foreign property away from the traditional locations of France or Spain.

Peter Joyner, a spokesperson for self-catering holiday specialist Hoseasons, explained: "If you are travelling from Britain to Europe and if the euro rises, it's impossible to predict that, then Brits will choose to go further afield where the pound is stronger."

As a result, people who make an international payment to acquire a property in a location outside the eurozone could get a lot of interest from British travellers.

Richard Carrick, chief executive of Hoseasons holidays said customers need to be aware of the extra costs of going abroad, meaning choosing a location outside Europe could be a wise decision for many this year.

In March 2007 a euro was worth 0.68 of a pound, based on the monthly average, but today is worth around 0.89 of a pound.
