The number of individuals looking to carry out international money transfers to Australia could be set to rise, with a new survey suggesting more Brits than ever are looking to emigrate.

According to Aviva, the temptation to leave the country in search of pastures new is now greater than ever before.

The insurance firm noted that 46 per cent of respondents to its recent study are seriously considering moving abroad.

Australia tops the list of the destinations Brits are looking to relocate to, followed by the US, Canada, Spain and New Zealand.

Teresa Rogers, business lead for International PMI at Aviva, said that the trend is being driven by the introduction of recent austerity measures in the UK.

"When times are tough, it might seem natural to set one's sights on moving abroad," she said.

The research follows recent comments from Rhiannon Davies, director of Shelter Offshore, recommending that expatriates research their plans to head overseas before they make the move.
