Britons might be tempted to set up an international money transfer to the US sooner rather than later as home sales are reportedly improving.

Reports cited by Overseas Property Professional (OPP) suggest that sales in the fourth quarter of 2010 showed substantial improvement.

Indeed, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) told OPP that there was a 15.4 per cent jump in sales of existing homes in the final three months of last year.

Lawrence Yun, chief economist at NAR, commented: "An improving housing market and job growth will go hand in hand. The housing recovery will mean faster job growth."

However, moving abroad can be expensive, especially if currency exchange rates are not weighted in your favour.

Using an independent foreign exchange broker to send money to the US can help lower the overall cost by allowing individuals to access competitive currency exchange rates without fees.
