International money transfers could allow foreign students the chance 'to shine' at universities in the UK.
The British Council's 2011 Shine! International Student Awards are actively searching for nominees for next year's awards.
Open to students aged 15 or over, the awards invite people on full-time courses lasting for a minimum of six months to share their experiences of the UK.
The stories could tempt more international students to come and get to know the country, in which case international money transfers could help to keep overall costs down.
Last year's winter, Rose Melissa Ilboudo from Burkina Faso, told of her experiences helping to raise more than £200,000 for her home country.
"Christian Aid volunteers, classmates and friends took part in the marathon and triathlon," she said.
"And we have had enormous support from churches in East Anglia and schools, who have all contributed to the fundraising."
