Currency exchange rates could prove important to firms that are branching out in order to look for overseas business.
Recent comments from Mark Swift, spokesman for the manufacturer's association EEF, suggested that emerging markets are becoming particularly popular with British companies.
He said: "Clearly the UK domestic market over the last couple of decades has hollowed out somewhat, and the more traditional markets like Europe and the United States are well established, whereas the growth figures coming out of places like China, Brazil and Russia are very strong.
"I think companies have realised that and broken into the markets."
The comments follow a report from the EEF that revealed that British manufacturers are experiencing buoyant trading conditions due to rising demand in overseas markets along with a steady level of confidence in the growth of the sector.
